#1 Best 2 Person Portable Hot Tub: Free Flow Tristar

The Free Flow portable AHS roto-mold hot tubs are extremely portable & affordable. You simply have the hot tub delivered by your local Free Flow hot tub dealer, plug it into your outside electrical outlet, fill it with a hose, and turn it on! The set up is easy, they’re incredibly durable & built to last, and you can move them very easily. Some customers even choose Free Flow hot tubs for rental properties because of the affordability, durability, and customer experience.

These hot tubs are rotationally molded with acrylic creating a durable “unibody” that is incredibly strong & holds up in any weather. This manufacturing process is much more inexpensive & faster than hand built hot tubs which is why they’re more affordable than most other options.

Best Two Person Hot Tub Buying Guide

You can find our original downloadable hot tub buying guide here. If you’re interested in a shortened version, read below!

We know, hot tub shopping can be so overwhelming because of all the options, accessories, selling features, water care systems, insulation types, jet types, brands… the list is really endless. Don’t worry, we’re going to simplify this as much as we possibly can for you.

There are 4 core aspects of a hot tub that you want to pay close attention to when you’re shopping. It’s up to you to dig into the details of the hot tub brands and models you’re shopping for with the help of this guide.

Brand Reputation

The Brand Reputation is a great place to start when shopping for a hot tub. It’s going to help you learn a lot about their quality, performance, customer service & experience, life expectancy & more.

What should you look for? How many years has this company been in the industry compared to others, where they are made, what is the brands main focus, how is their customer service, & most importantly what are their customers saying about them? You can find reviews on specific brands by googling the brand and typing “customer reviews” after the hot tub brand name. The customer reviews are really going to tell you all that you need to know about that brand.

Brand reputation is so important to really consider when shopping for a hot tub because ideally you’re buying a hot tub to last you 15-25 years & you want to be happy with the company who is going to be providing you service throughout those years so its easy & relaxing! You’ll also want to look into the reputation of your local dealer who provides you with your hot tub. You can visit our previous article that goes over Why to Buy From A Hot Tub Store to learn about what to expect from your hot tub shopping experience if you buy from a local dealer vs. a big box store.

Energy Efficiency

This is one aspect some tend to look past because their so focused on other features of the hot tub. However, it’s so important when shopping for the best hot tub, to ask about their energy efficiency.

What should you look for? The insulation type – you want the insulation to at the VERY least be 2lb spray foam or equivalent in efficiency. Any less than 2lb is not going to properly insulate your hot tub and will cost you $100’s per month to run – yes seriously! Also, you want to make sure your hot tub is fully insulated. This means all jet lines are covered by foam to hold them in place, keep the water warm, and eliminate the risk of water freezing in those lines in the winter. You can also look for pump heat recycling which helps decrease operation costs! Your local hot tub dealer should offer a hot tub energy efficiency calculator on their website.

Overall, hot tubs should cost $15-$25 per month on average to run. Anymore than that, you should probably move on. View our latest article on hot tub running costs for more detailed information.

Warranty

Another very important question to ask is “What is your warranty & what are the details on that warranty?”. Ask your hot tub wellness consultant to see the warranty description so you have all of the details right in front of you.

What should you look for? Often times, a hot tub will have a “10 year warranty” or “lifetime warranty” and it will be for something like the structure of the hot tub & then the rest of the hot tub is only warrantied for a couple years. Nothing should ever happen to the structure of a hot tub no matter which brand you are shopping, so something like this isn’t too important. You want to find details on how they warranty their components, heater, pumps, shell, plumbing, lighting system, and their accessories as well.

Ask questions like “Who will complete my warranty service?”, “Will I have to pay for labor?”, and “Is this warranty pro-rated over time?”. Your local dealer should have a service team that is certified to complete any warranty work, labor should be included for most repairs, and you do not want a pro-rated warranty. Pro-rated warranties mean they will decrease your hot tub warranty coverage by a certain percentage every year.

Hot Spring Spas have a very strong warranty & they even put it on their website. View their 5 year warranty here.

Service

Last & certainly not least is to find out about the service your local dealer & hot tub brand offer. Also, what is their customer service like?

What should you look for? You want to make sure your local hot tub dealer has a full service team ready to help! Throughout your hot tubbing experience, you’ll need to complete services like a complete dump & refill to refresh you water care, possible winterizations & start ups, and accessory replacements. If you’re not the type of person who has the time to complete these tasks, you want to make sure your local hot tub dealer offers these services to you. Also, you want to be sure they are able to help you if any repairs, in warranty or out of warranty, need to be taken care of. Without a service team, you’ll be stuck trying to figure these things out yourself or paying a lot of money to have an outside company help.

Again, you also want to check your local dealer out on google and see what their customers are saying about them. This is where you’ll get a real honest look into what type of experience to expect from your potential hot tub provider.
